The volcano looms
sheer and ice-capped
while alpine flowers sway
in a top-of-the-world
wind dance.
Bees,
ambrosia-powdered
incandesce in
nascent light.
What a dawn-
what a place-
what a sight.
We watch as night
evaporates with
morning mist
and glacial rivers rush
in crystal straits
and twists.
What a day-
what a way
to exist
amongst
the staggering
and perilous.
Here, we remember
that every moment
threatens to
bury us,
whether it’s beneath
grave dirt or
volcanic dust.
Here, you stoop
down on
one knee
and ask me
to make the most
of everything
before it all
erupts.
