The Komodo

By

Known for its
scimitar teeth,
dribbling grin,
lethal hunt, and
chain-mail skin.

Ancient and
mysterious,
some say its bite
is harmless-
that it’s the shredding
of flesh that kills
its catch
with pure might
and mechanization.

While others say,
the bite itself is
fatally
bacterial,
a highly
communicable
microbe
infestation.

Yet still,
others swear
it’s all venom!
A paralytic and
anti-coagulating
serum-
released when it starts
to feed to bleed
its squirming
victims.

It seems we’re
determined
to disagree
regardless of
the topic.

So while
drooling dragons
roam the earth
dangerous and
pan-tropic
we trifle over
how
they kill-
anthropically
myopic.
