We step out into a sea
of starlight, smoke,
and flickering,
where we turn from
whispy things
of whim and stifling
to solid beings
with forms aching
for warmth and
beguiling.
I study you
with embodied eyes
as if it’s
the very first time
I’ve seen
your skin
from mine.
How can we stay
in these
flesh and bone frames
when we’re
once again
worlds away
from this burning
celestial
sea?
I’ll remember you.
Will you
remember me?
