Cosmopolitan Cocoon

By

Dazzling-necked pigeons
nest in sagging saplings.
Garbage plucked
from reeking bins
gives each bird
extra padding.

Coo’s cocoon
the clement night
in silky vowel sounds.
Windows wink like
streaked square eyes,
spotlighting
sticky ground.

The metro moans
from miles below,
above clacks
black stilettos.
The scent of fuel
and garlic bread
perfumes
a shoebox bedroom.
